STRATHNAVER, 35 km north of QUESNEL on BC RAIL, is the site of the Dunkley Lumber Ltd SAWMILL, built in 1950 and sold in the late 1980s to the Novak family. It employs 150 people, many of whom live in neighbouring HIXON, and is one of the most technologically sophisticated mills in N America. The area was settled in 1912 by Scottish immigrants, part of a colonization scheme by the Duke of Sutherland, who bought 16.2 sq km of land and came up with the name.
