Thrums

THRUMS, on the north shore of the KOOTENAY R 7 km northeast of CASTLEGAR, is a DOUKHOBOR settlement. It was named after James Barrie's play, A Window in Thrums. Nearly 1,000 Sons of Freedom protest marchers were arrested here in 1932; about 600 of them served 3-year sentences at PIERS ISLAND for public nudity.
