BOSTON was an American-owned sailing vessel that arrived in NOOTKA SOUND on the west coast of VANCOUVER ISLAND on a trading voyage on 12 Mar 1803. Capt John Salter and his 26-man crew met the local NUU-CHAH-NULTH people, led by their chief MAQUINNA. As trading and refitting progressed, a misunderstanding developed between the traders and the local people, and on 22 March Maquinna and his followers attacked the ship, killing all hands except John JEWITT and John Thompson.
