BURNABY, Robert, businessman (b 30 Nov 1828, Leicestershire, England; d 10 Jan 1878, Loughborough, England). He was a member of the English civil service when he learned about the FRASER R GOLD strike and decided to come out to VANCOUVER ISLAND. He arrived in VICTORIA in Dec 1858 and secured an appointment as secretary to Col Richard MOODY, head of the ROYAL ENGINEERS contingent.
