BURTON, pop 167, originally established as a MINING settlement, is on the east bank of Lower ARROW LK, 30 km south of NAKUSP. It was named after Reuben Burton, who settled here in 1893 and was the community's first postmaster. The village was moved to its present site after the opening of the KEENLEYSIDE DAM in the 1960s. Arrow Lakes Provincial Park is located nearby.
