GARIBALDI was a recreational community and BC RAIL station, originally called Daisy Lk, 80 km north of VANCOUVER on the CHEAKAMUS R. Before WHISTLER was established, Garibaldi was the main access point to GARIBALDI PROVINCIAL PARK. In the 1970s residents were relocated arther north on Hwy 99 due to fears of LANDSLIDES. Daisy Lk, popular for sport FISHING and boating, formed in 1855 when one such slide blocked the Cheakamus; a BC HYDRO dam raised water levels in 1964.
