Horne Lake


HORNE LAKE, 9.61 sq km, is on VANCOUVER ISLAND 40 km northwest of PARKSVILLE. It is the headwaters of the Qualicum R and is a good trout FISHING site. The lake is named for Adam Grant HORNE, a trader who came across it in 1856. The area around the lake has been logged extensively since the 1920s. Horne Lake Caves Provincial PARK (1.2 sq km), at the west end, protects a network of 7 underground caves, 3 of which are open to visitors. See also KARST FORMATIONS; LAKES.
