KLEECOOT was a LOGGING settlement and NUU-CHAH-NULTH (Nootka) village 11 km northwest of PORT ALBERNI on the northeast shore of SPROAT LK on VANCOUVER ISLAND. Kleecoot is Sproat Lk's aboriginal name and means "wide open."
