MAKINSON, a fruit and poultry farming settlement (see AGRICULTURE) and former steamship stop on the east side of the COLUMBIA R between Upper and Lower ARROW LKS, 85 km north of CASTLEGAR, was submerged under rising water levels when the KEENLEYSIDE DAM was built in 1968. Tom Makinson, a pioneer, used salvaged materials from the wrecked sternwheeler Lytton to build his home.
