NEW WESTMINSTER BRUINS, a junior HOCKEY powerhouse, belonged to the WHL 1971–81 and again in 1983–88. Under coach Ernie "Punch" McLEAN they played with a bruising, physical style and won 4 consecutive league championships (1975–78) and 2 Memorial Cups (1977–78). In 1981 new owner Peter Pocklington moved the team to KAMLOOPS. The Bruins were back in the WHL briefly from 1983 until they moved in 1988 to Kennewick, WA.
