Pentlatch

PENTLATCH  () were a Northern Coast Salish group occupying the east shore of VANCOUVER ISLAND from PARKSVILLE north to Cape Lazo, as well as the offshore islands including DENMAN and HORNBY. Disease, intertribal warfare and the encroachment of neighbouring groups led to their disappearance in the 19th century. Their language became extinct in 1940.
