ROBSON, a residential suburb 4 km northwest of CASTLEGAR, was once a busy CPR terminus, steamship port, ore depot and orchard settlement at the south end of the ARROW LKS. The original landing, located 3 km east in 1891, was named after Gilbert M. SPROAT. In 1902 a railway bridge spanned the COLUMBIA R to W Robson joining the Columbia & Kootenay and COLUMBIA & WESTERN railways. Robson was named after John ROBSON, BC PREMIER from 1889 to 1892.
