SALTERY BAY is on the north side of JERVIS INLET near its mouth, 30 km south of POWELL RIVER on the SUNSHINE COAST. It is a terminus for the ferry that connects the Sunshine Coast Hwy (Hwy 101) south across Jervis Inlet to Earls Cove. The name refers to a fish saltery that formerly operated in the bay. The presence of shell MIDDENS indicates that it was used pre-contact by the SECHELT people as a campsite. Saltery Bay Provincial PARK (69 ha) is nearby.
