Selkirk Mountains


SELKIRK MOUNTAINS are one of 4 parallel ranges (the others are the PURCELL, MONASHEE and CARIBOO Mts) in south-central BC that form the COLUMBIA MTS system. They are named for the Earl of Selkirk, a 19th-century British colonizer. The Selkirks extend 350 km from the Big Bend of the COLUMBIA R in the north to the US border, creating a natural divide between the ARROW LKS on the west and KOOTENAY LK to the east.
