Surfing

SURFING takes place year-round at 2 locations on the west coast of VANCOUVER ISLAND. Water temperatures vary from a frigid 4°C to a high of 13°C; wetsuits are suggested even at the height of summer. One community of surfers, whose members prefer to see it as a lifestyle rather than a sport, congregates at JORDAN R west of VICTORIA. The other surfs the beaches near TOFINO in PACIFIC RIM NATIONAL PARK. Heli-surfing is possible in more remote locations on the outer coast.
