TELEGRAPH COVE is a small village on the northeast coast of VANCOUVER ISLAND, just south of PORT McNEILL at the western entrance to JOHNSTONE STRAIT. A boardwalk rims the edge of the cove and many of the buildings sit on pilings over the water. The village began in 1912 as a telegraph station on the line between CAMPBELL RIVER and the north end of the Island. In 1929 Fred WASTELL from ALERT BAY, along with his partner Alex Macdonald, opened a SAWMILL to make boxes for shipping SALMON to Japan....
