TROUT LAKE CITY, 60 km southeast of REVELSTOKE at the north end of Trout Lk, was created in the early 1890s when GOLD and SILVER were discovered in the LARDEAU country (see also MINING). It soon had 5 hotels, a bank, a 6-bed hospital, skating rink, newspaper and 300 inhabitants. The ARROWHEAD & KOOTENAY RWY arrived at the south end of the lake in 1902 and steamboat service was available from 1902 to 1921, but metal prices dropped in the early 1900s and the mines closed.
