WEST DEMARS, also known as Reid's Landing after John Reid, an early homesteader, was a steamship stop and orchard settlement (see TREE FRUITS) 100 km south of REVELSTOKE, at the south end of Upper ARROW LK. LOGGING was important here in the early 1900s. It was named for Nels Demars, a pioneer resident of nearby NAKUSP. The site was flooded during the construction of the KEENLEYSIDE DAM.
