BARKLEY SOUND is a maze of ISLANDS, bays and inlets on the west coast of VANCOUVER ISLAND just south of LONG BEACH. About 24 km wide, it is broken into 3 channels by 2 major island groups—the BROKEN GROUP and the Deer Islands. The Broken Group are part of PACIFIC RIM NATIONAL PARK. Six narrow inlets—ALBERNI, Effingham, Pipestem, Ucluelet, Uchucklesit and Useless—radiate from the sound.
