EDGEWOOD, pop 160, 62 km northwest of CASTLEGAR, was a sternwheeler (see PADDLEWHEEL STEAMBOATS) landing on the west side of Lower ARROW LK south of NEEDLES, until the CPR abandoned the route in 1954. The village was re-established on higher ground in the mid-1960s when the KEENLEYSIDE DAM was built. AGRICULTURE, LOGGING and MINING are all important to the local economy.
