As Vancouver readers still mourn the closure of the final Duthie's outlet last February, and the death of Sophia Books as well, news arrives that former Duthie manager Ria Bleumer is opening a new store just down the street in Kitsilano.

The local discount chain, Book Warehouse, is closing its store on West Fourth and Bleumer's operation, Sitka Books & Art, is moving in. With all the dire news about independent booksellers, she must be mad. But in a good way!

The new store should be open by late August. Best of luck to Ria and to Sitka.
