Nurses in the Great War

Posted by Daniel on Feb 16, 2010 - 6 comments

I just came across an interesting blog about Canadian nurses who served overseas during World War One. The blog (here) is maintained by Alberta writer Debbie Marshall. Each month she intends to tell the story of one of the 47 military nurses who died during the war.

Her first subject is Gladys Maude Wake from Victoria. When she died in France during a German aerial bombardment of her hospital, Wake was 34 years old.

Marshall notes, rightly, that the role of women in the Great War is not well enough known amd her blog is intended to do a little something about that.
