New Website Focuses on Chinese Immigration

The Multicultural History Society of Ontario has launched a new feature on its website which will hold a lot of interest for British Columbians.

Chinese-Canadian Women 1923-1967 (here) contains interviews, photographs and documents telling the story of Chinese immigrants to Canada. Despite its title, the site actually goes back to the beginning of immigration in 1858, detailing the head tax period, the 1907 anti-Asian riot in Vancouver, the Victoria school strike in 1922, and many other episodes both in BC and in Canada generally. For teachers there are a number of lesson plans; for the average reader, there are many fascinating primary documents.

A very worthy project, supported by Citizenship and Immigration Canada.
