The bookstore at the University of British Columbia is changing its name.
Apparently "book" is no longer a word that describes the store's merchandise. In fact, "store" is another outmoded word. From now on the facility will be known as UBC Central, a one stop shop for a variety of products and services, only one of which is books.
We've gotten used to the big box stores squeezing out books in order to make space for stationery, knick-knacks and home furnishings. But you`d have thought that a university would be one place where "book" is not a dirty word.
