My friend George Fetherling has added another book to his long list of publications, which has now grown to something over 50 titles (more than some people read in a lifetime, let alone write!). River of Gold: The Fraser & Cariboo Gold Rushes (Subway Books) commemorates last year's 150th anniversary of the gold rush that gave birth to the province. Look for it at your favourite bookseller.
George marked his 6oth birthday in January by hosting not one but two celebrations. The party in Vancouver took place at the Katmandu Restaurant on Commercial Drive where a couple dozen of his friends dined on Nepalese cuisine and swapped stories about their genial host. A week later there was a much posher affair in Toronto. George has been one of the country's prominent men of letters for several decades now and guests at the Toronto do rubbed shoulders with many notables, including Peter C. Newman and Margaret Atwood.
At 60 George does not appear to be slowing down. Not only does he have the new gold rush book out but he'll be publishing a new novel at the end of the year as well.
