The experience of Chinese railway workers in BC is highlighted in a new website that has just been launched.
Called The Ties That Bind (here) the site tells the story of the earliest Chinese immigrants who were brought to BC during the 1880s to build the western sections of the Canadian Pacific Railway. The site, which was developed by the Multicultural History Society of Ontario, features text, photographs and interviews with the descendants of some of those early workers.
There is also material on the head tax and subsequent efforts by the Chinese to make homes for themselves in a sometimes hostile society.
Well worth a look.
