Joe Fortes Remembered
Canada Post is commemorating Black History Month (February) by issuing a stamp with the image of Joe Fortes, Vancouver's first official lifeguard who patrolled the English Bay beach for many years. In 1986 the Vancouver Historical Society named him Citizen of the Century. And of course there is a restaurant downtown named for him, and a library.
